Ethan Rogers* has spent years inside the world of Les Misérables. He’s traveled the country with the national tour, understudying both Enjolras and Jean Valjean, learning the role under acclaimed actor Nick Cartell, who Phoenix audiences may remember as Marius in The Phoenix Theatre Company’s original production of Les Misérables.

Now, Rogers takes center stage as Valjean in The Phoenix Theatre Company’s upcoming production of the legendary musical.

Few roles in musical theatre ask as much from an actor as Jean Valjean. A man imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread, Valjean is released into a world that has no interest in giving him a second chance. What follows is a lifelong pursuit of redemption, as a businessman, an adoptive father, and a man of conscience, all while being relentlessly pursued by the police inspector Javert.

It is a role that demands power, vulnerability, and range that spans decades of a man’s life across a single evening.

Rogers has built his career on stages across the country. Audiences may recognize him from the national tour of Back to the Future: The Musical, where he played Biff Tannen.

His regional theatre credits include productions at Ogunquit Playhouse, ZACH Theatre, and Great Lakes Theater. He is also a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University’s acclaimed music theatre program.

Rogers now brings that experience to Phoenix audiences this summer in Les Misérables, July 15 through August 30, 2026 in the Dr. Stacie J. and Richard J Stephenson Theatre.
