Audition, Callback and Casting Information

Phoenix Theatre’s 2015/2016 Season Youth General Audition.

The date for this audition is: Sunday, Aug. 16th 2015: from 12:00pm-5:00pm

This audition is for anyone 16 years old or younger.  Auditions will be considered for our production of Wizard of Oz and When you Wish.

Each person will be given an audition slot within a half hr. time slot. Each audition slot will need to be booked directly with the Associate Production Manager, Karla Frederick. Once you send your audition request you will receive a confirmation e-mail from Karla. In your request e-mail please provide Karla with the name of the person who will be auditioning and the time choices you want between 12-5pm.

What to Prepare:

Each actor will need to prepare (1) 16bars of music up tempo.  We may ask during the audition to sing from one of our season shows as well. An accompanist will be provided. If you would like to bring your own accompanist that is allowed however we will not have any kind of playback options in the room i.e. CD player/IPod hook-up. Please bring 3 headshots, 3 resumes and 3 audition forms. To download audition form click HERE.

Dear Artists, thank you for your interest in Phoenix Theatre! Phoenix Theatre’s 2015/2016 Season General Auditions are coming up soon. These auditions are one of the most important opportunities for Phoenix Theatre’s artistic staff to see and stay current with the work of local actors.

The audition schedule is as follows:

Friday, April 24th 2015: MUSICAL AUDITIONS from 4:00pm-8:00pm

Friday, April 24th 2015: STRAIGHT PLAY AUDITIONS from 8:00pm-11:00pm

Saturday, April 25th 2015: MUSICAL AUDITIONS from 11:00am-8:00pm

Sunday, April 26th 2015: MUSICAL AUDITIONS from 11:00am-8:00pm

Monday, April 27th 2015: AEA OPEN DANCE CALL AUDITIONS (Women) from 1pm-2: 30pm (Men) 3pm-4: 30pm

All auditions will be held in the Main Stage Rehearsal Hall, holding room and check in will be held in the Green Room.

*** Please note that a general dance callback round for musicals will be held on April 27th  from 5:00pm-10:00pm.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you want a MUSICAL AUDITION TIME DO NOT sign-up for a straight play slot.  There will not be an accompanist on those dates.  Also if you want a musical and straight play slot only sign up for a musical slot you will be considered for both at that time.  Each person gets only one slot.

All of our audition times are open to AEA members. Please sign up for a time that best fits your schedule. If you are having any trouble finding an audition time please email auditions@phoenixtheatre.com

We will be keeping an online schedule for general auditions this year. Please make sure you sign up early. Audition time slots tend to fill up very quickly, and we want to make sure everyone gets a slot that works with their schedule.

Please note that Season Generals are for anyone 16 years of age or older.  Our Youth Season Generals will be held in the late summer or early fall and those details will be posted on our website around that time.

Phoenix Theatre is dedicated to the casting and employment of local Phoenix-based talent. Auditions for Actors are hired on a show-by-show basis during the season and auditions for individual shows are by invitation only and set by participation in our general auditions.

Phoenix Theatre produces classic and contemporary Musicals, classic and contemporary Dramas and Comedies, World Premiere Plays and Musicals, New Works development readings and staged readings, Theatre for Youth and numerous outreach and community-based cabarets and adult/children programming.

Production Casting and Callbacks

For Callbacks, the Phoenix Theatre artistic staff, in consultation with directors, invites individual actors to read for roles in specific productions. These callbacks are based on participation in the General Auditions and are held throughout the year on an invitation-only basis in Phoenix, and also possibly in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles or Toronto (CANADA) as the project warrants.

As a courtesy to our artists, once casting has been completed for a specific show, a generated email will be sent to all actors who were called back. Until the email has been sent, the Phoenix Theatre artistic staff, in consultation with directors, is still in the midst of casting.

Seeing your work

Members of the Phoenix Theatre artistic staff try to see as many theatre performances as possible. If you are cast in a production in the Phoenix area, please send us an invitation card to our physical address (ATTN: CAST AND COMPANY MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT). Time permitting, one of the artistic staff members will attend. We regret that it is impossible for us to see everything.

Out-of Town Actors

Throughout the year, Equity actors visiting from out of town are welcome to request an audition appointment by emailing auditions@phoenixtheatre.com . Auditions are scheduled contingent on the availability of the artistic staff.

Phoenix Theatre maintains detailed records on Phoenix-area actors. We keep a file of the photos and resumes of actors who have worked at and/or auditioned for the theatre in the past two years. It is important that we have current information. Any time you change your telephone number or union status, please send us an updated headshot including your name, address, telephone number, and email address and send it to auditions@phoenixtheatre.com
