Craig Bohmler

Craig Bohmler is a composer whose works are frequently performed in Europe North America and Japan. Primarily a composer for the “singing theater” and the solo voice, Mr. Bohmler has 4 operas and 14 musicals to his credit as well as 200 art songs and numerous choral and orchestral works. He has written operas for the Houston Grand Opera, Opera San Jose, and The Arizona Opera. His musicals Gunmetal Blues and Enter The Guardsman (Olivier Award Nominee for “best musical”) have both played in London and Off-Broadway as well as in many regional and international theatres. He was composer-in–residence for Arizona Opera from 2012-2017 where his western opera Riders of the Purple Sage premiered in February 2017 to sell out crowds and was subsequently broadcast internationally. In March 2019, he received the Arizona Governor’s Arts Award for individual artist and has also been the recipient of several grants including three NEA grants and three "meet the composer" grants. He is grateful for his long time relationship with Phoenix Theatre which has premiered 5 of his musicals. He is musical director and arranger for the “3 Redneck Tenors” which has toured world wide for over 16 years and was featured on America’s Got Talent. He is presently working on two new musicals (A Beautiful Place and Happy Texas) the latter which he is writing with his husband Rusty Ferracane. A Beautiful Place is a semifinalist in the National Musical Theatre Alliance in New York and Happy Texas is a semi finalist in the National Theatre Conference at the O’Neill Center.
