Pope Professional Apprenticeship Program

The Phoenix Theatre Company apprenticeship program is designed for aspiring theatre artists to bridge the gap between studying theatre and attaining work experience while under the tutelage of industry professionals. While emphasizing in a particular field the apprenticeship program also enables the exploration of theatre, giving an in-depth view into career paths apprentices may not have considered; all while building a network of professional connections to help jumpstart a career.

The program offers practical applications in multiple career fields including Scenic, Properties, Costumes, Lighting, Wardrobe, Sound, Stage Management, and Show Carpentry. This program is season long, starting August/September with flexible start and end dates and offers opportunities for growth in the applicant’s field of concentration. Private, single occupancy housing is provided for out-of-town apprentices.

The Phoenix Theatre Company, a LOA LORT D Theatre and Arizona’s largest professional regional theatre produces shows in both a 380-seat proscenium space and a 250-seat black box space, for a jam-packed versatile season.  Located in the heart of the Central Arts District close to downtown, our beautiful 14-acre campus includes three theaters, a restaurant and bar, rehearsal halls, administrative offices, and costume, scenic, prop, lighting, and paint shops, all on one site.

The Phoenix Theatre Company developed and operates within a robust Covid safety system.  Safety systems include: weekly testing for those working with AEA actors free of charge at the theatre and mask adherence.  We require all apprentices to be fully vaccinated/up to date for in person work.  All systems will be assessed and nimble based on AEA/CDC and state guidelines.
