The Phoenix Theatre Company is Arizona’s largest professional regional theatre.  As we complete a $30 million expansion in 2025 with our new 500 seat theatre, we will be a leader in innovative theatre, partnering with producers for Pre-Broadway new works, producing and co-presenting with other top regional theatres across North America, as well as continuing to produce our shows in house.

Job Summary

The Property Manager works closely with the scenic designer, director, and all production staff to help create the artistic vision for the property needs of each production. The Property Manager is responsible for purchasing, acquiring, manufacturing, and overseeing of any props, set dressing, and rehearsal props needed for each production and maintaining them throughout a run while managing the properties team. The Property Manager is on staff during pre-production to help develop the stylistic concept of the physical production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs/pulls/shops/creates the necessary properties design elements to convey the director’s artistic vision for each production
  • Attends all meetings and rehearsals including - Conceptual Design meetings, Production meetings, Designer Run-Thru rehearsals, Technical rehearsals, Dress rehearsals, note sessions, and Preview performances
  • Communicates and coordinates with Director, Production Stage Manager, and Scenic Designer to ensure that all design requirements are completed within the Production schedule’s deadlines
  • Acquires all materials needed to fulfill the shows needs and the design team’s vision; this includes but is not limited to: shopping for materials (lumber, fabrics, paints, etc.), borrowing or renting pieces from other theatres or retailers  
  • Maintains a safe work environment and following OSHA standards
  • Maintains all prop storage areas including hand prop storage, furniture storage, and items stored in the warehouse
  • May need to build furniture from scratch: skills shall include welding, carpentry, upholstery and painting 
  • Creates build schedules for the properties team for all productions at The Phoenix Theatre Company
  • Sets schedules for properties team 
  • Tracks budgets accordingly

Minimum Qualifications

  • A degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience in regional and/or professional theatre or equivalent industries
  • Computer skills and knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices
  • Artistic vision, creativity, and understanding of theatre
  • Knowledge of time periods, styles, and design
  • Ability to work in numerous different mediums i.e. sewing, building, welding, carpentry, electrical wiring, crafts, etc.
  • Preferred experience working with CAD (Vectorworks or AutoCAD) and Adobe Photoshop (or the equivalent)

Physical / Mental Demands & Working Conditions

  • Some weekends and evening required due to the nature of the production schedule
  • General theatre, scene shop and prop shop work environment
  • Heavy lifting to move furniture and props
  • Heights up to 25 feet

Compensation/Start Date

  • $50,000-$54,000 annually (BOE)
  • Desired start date: Early Aug. 2024
