Phoenix Theatre's stages have been filled for over 90 years with the best in musical theatre, drama, and comedy. With all this activity, our 1953 building is bursting at the seams. Our outreach and educational programs touch the lives of tens of thousands of children each year. Our New Works Festival has developed more than 50 scripts over the past 14 years, including many that have seen full productions on our own Mainstage and beyond.
In 2006, Phoenix Theatre developed a plan to address our shortage of space. The new flexible "Black Box" theatre will serve as a home to Cookie Company and its young audiences, as well as the new works development program. City of Phoenix voters approved a bond issue providing over $10 million in funding for the project. Phoenix Theatre committed to raise an additional $5 million to supplement the city bond funds and enhance the project.
Construction in now under way for Phoenix Theatre's new box office and grand entryway, a necessary first step before we can buuild the new Black Box theatre itself. This will create a much more convenient service area for our patrons, as well as a more attractive portal into the complex. This is all part of the Next Stage Capital Project - Phoenix Theatre's effort to build a new stage for a new generation of theatre goers.
Play your part and donate today! All donations are welcome and can be paid over up to 5 years depending on level. This is your opportunity to help us reach the goal and ensure proper performance spaces for the next generation of Phoenix Theatre
