Research shows: students in drama study score as much as 44 points higher on diagnostic testing. Students with acting or production experiences scored 53 points higher on the average math and verbal scores.
- In 2007, Greasepaint Youtheatre merged with Phoenix Theatre and continues to provide exceptional educational programming and performance opportunities for youth ages 7-19.
- Each year Greasepaint serves more than 200 youth directly through programming and hundreds more in our audiences.
- Greasepaint provides something for everyone in the family and productions include musicals, live touring outreach performances, cutting-edge youth theatre, and family-friendly performances.
- Performs for over 35,000 children and adults annually
- Phoenix Theatre’s Cookie Company, so named for the cookie and milk receptions held following each public performance.
- Professional adult actors performing for children (ages 4-11) and their families specializing in original scripts infused with universal truths (values) that are accessible and intimate for our young audience.
- Performances often of a participatory nature.
Young Theatregoers
- Young Theatregoers, a field trip experience to the theatre accounts for more than 2/3rds of the 35,000 annual audience members.
- We provide half price tickets to school children and provide a study guides for teachers that help them integrate the production into core classroom curriculum and to meet the mandated Arizona Arts Standards. This ticket discount program costs the theatre approximately 100k per year.

Books Alive!
Our after-school literacy program called “Books Alive” uses drama and dance to bring literature to life and help children learn to visual literature in a way that encourages reading and helps students retain what they read.
- Serving up to 700 students each year
- 88% Hispanic, 4% Caucasian, 7% African American, and 1% Native American
- 84% are ELL students (children who are English Language Learners)
