Phoenix Theatre Overview

Phoenix Theatre, founded in 1920 as Phoenix Little Theatre, is the oldest arts institution in the State of Arizona and one of the oldest continuously operating arts organizations in the country. As an integral part of Arizona’s cultural landscape, providing entertainment and education opportunities to millions of residents, Phoenix Theatre is the only professional theatre in the Valley that provides programming that spans all generations.

Major Programs

  • Mainstage (professional theatre for adult audiences);
  • Cookie Company (theatre for youth and families);
  • PT Connections: Education & Outreach (offering programming developed with or for other organizations and generally presented off-site);
  • Phoenix Theatre Academy (offering programming and training designed by our education staff and generally presented on-site); and
  • New Works Festival (offering staged readings of new works and workshops in performance and playwriting)

Mission

Phoenix Theatre breathes life into stories to serve a growing, diverse and increasingly urban community. Through a range of professional theatrical experiences, we articulate messages to our community in vibrant fashion, igniting the imagination of audience and artist and instilling knowledge and skill in students.

Community Support

Phoenix Theatre has been fortunate to enjoy a history of strong community support, both from individuals and from corporate partners.  That support has allowed Phoenix Theatre to respond with flexibility to shifts in business trends and economic realities, and to remain a vital part of the city’s Central Corridor. As we look to the future, we see a vibrant Phoenix Theatre Performing Arts Center, which will serve as a destination for both tourists and residents.

Phoenix Theatre Core Values
